The Deer Castle is a hidden gem hidden deep in the forest. You might think its name comes from the deer that roam the surrounding woods. However, that’s not the case. It owes its name to the hunting trophy that still takes pride of place in the main hall, despite its advanced state of decay. In fact, it is the last room to remain more or less intact. The woodwork and wallpaper are magnificent.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much to say about the rest. The roof, or what’s left of it, no longer provides any shelter. The façades are overgrown with ivy and some of the rooms have been destroyed by fires.
Like many others, this castle is in danger of becoming a legend of the past, fading into the mist and giving way to deer and their fawns.
